Commercial projects often give us the opportunity to design a story or create a visual adventure in a larger piece of metal. Recently, we had the pleasure of working with LMB Interiors on the privacy screens for Tanya Holland’s new Oakland location of her award winning Brown Sugar Kitchen restaurant.
Tanya is a superstar and wears many hats, making her a joy to work with! Not only is she the talented chef behind the soul food of her multiple restaurants, she is also the author of the Brown Sugar Kitchen Cookbook and the New Soul Cooking cookbook, and has appeared on many television shows, including Top Chef. With a wide array of experience, education, and training she is not only an inspiration in the kitchen, but in all work and life endeavors.
To begin projects like these in restaurants or other commercial spaces, we spend some time in a creative deliberation stage with our clients figuring out whether a signature Modern Metal design suits the space, or if a fresh, new pattern should be invented. While both options are exciting for us to work on, in this particular case Tanya and Laura of LMB Interiors chose our timeless and classic, Moroccan pattern. I loved this choice for their restaurant as it helps embody the classic and comfortable yet deluxe feeling of Brown Sugar Kitchen and it’s heavenly menu. Once this pattern was selected, our manufacturing department immediately began working with the metal to bring it to life. The panels were delivered in less than 6 weeks!
